Citizens' Alternate Route Task Force Visits Red Rock Crossing

The Citizens' Alternate Route Task Force, took a field trip to the proposed Red Rock Crossing bridge site to get a firsthand look at the impacts and effects such a project would have on this world-renowned site.

The Task Force, made up of representatives from regional organizations and interested citizens, was formed by Yavapai County Supervisor Chip Davis to gather facts and sort through issues surrounding the various alternate route proposals currently under consideration. They began holding weekly meetings on April 29, 1997 and completed their work on September 23, 1997.  See Citizens' Alternate Route Task Force Final Position Statement for more details.

The Red Rock Crossing meeting took place at 4:00 p.m. on June 24, 1997 at Crescent Moon Ranch, the U. S. Forest Service recreational area, on the Sedona side of Oak Creek.

A representative from Phoenix-based Dibble and Associates, Yavapai County's engineering consultants, marked the location and dimensions of the proposed bridge. The Task Force and members of the public had, for the first time, an on-site demonstration of the proportions and impacts of this highly controversial project. [Related Pictures]
