Alternate Route NEPA Process Restarted by Yavapai County
On October 27, 1997, the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors, meeting in Cottonwood, Arizona, restarted the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process to consider the proposed crossings of Oak Creek in the Sedona area.
The two primary routes under review will be [D2] Red Rock Crossing, and [E1] West Airport Mesa. The [E2] section of West Airport Mesa will not be included in the study. See Route Map for details.
At the meeting, Sedona District Ranger Ken Anderson was formally presented with the 600 page report produced by the Citizens' Alternate Route Task Force.
According to the Sedona Red Rock News, Anderson said the Forest Service will be identifying significant issues and range of alternatives based on comments received from the public, including task force contributions.
Yavapai County had previously allocated $165,000 for the NEPA process. That money is still available.
In addition, the County has budgeted an additional $300,000, of which $290,000 remains to help fund the necessary studies.
The City of Sedona has also indicated a willingness to contribute $48,000 of a Yavapai County grant to help fund the upcoming alternate route NEPA.
