RESOLUTION No. 2004-23
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEDONA, ARIZONA, SUPPORTING THE NEED FOR AN ALTERNATE ROUTE CONNECTING SR 89A AND SR 179 AND ENCOURAGING THAT AN ALTERNATIVE ROUTE BE FULLY EVALUATED AND STUDIED THROUGH THE NEPA PROCESS.
WHEREAS:
· An alternate route to SR 89A and SR 179 is in the best economic, social and cultural interests of the citizens of the City of Sedona; and Yavapai and Coconino Counties.
· A National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process is necessary because Oak Creek is a “Unique Water of the U.S.” and U.S. Forest Service lands may be impacted; and
· The NEPA process itself requires the evaluation and study of all feasible alternatives, including the “do nothing” alternative; and
· The study and evaluation of Red Rock Crossing and other feasible alternate routes to SR 89A and SR 179 through the NEPA process provides a public involvement methodology for determining the purpose, need and the best location for such an alternate route.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEDONA, ARIZONA THAT:
· The City of Sedona, through its Mayor and City Council, hereby supports the need for an alternate route to SR 89A and SR 179.
· The City of Sedona, through its Mayor and City Council, hereby encourages Yavapai and Coconino County to join with the city to initiate any and all action necessary to begin the NEPA process to fully evaluate Red Rock Crossing and other feasible alternate routes with financial support from the City of Sedona.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Mayor and Council of the City of Sedona, Arizona, this 15th day of December, 2004.
